Just the way Padmaavat and Udta Punjab had courted controversy, there are movies which are not scared of touching dangerous waters. These movies, however, are definitely bound to make an impact on the viewers, and there’s no saying what might happen next. Here are the controversial Bollywood movies scheduled for release this year.
The Accidental Prime Minister
This Vijay Gutte film has been courting controversy ever since its trailer was launched on Dec 27, 2018. The movie is based on Sanjaya Baru’s eponymous 2014 memoir which depicts the tumultuous and hotly debated reign of Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2014. Starring Anupam Kher as Singh and Akshaye Khanna as Baru, the Accidental Prime Minister is slated to hit the screens on January 11, 2019.
Cheat India
Emraan Hashmi runs a cheating mafia in the film and the Indian education system is exposed. Emraan is set to star in his first movie made by his very own production house, Emraan Hashmi Films. Cheat India will take a look at the Indian education system’s crimes, from rigging examinations to forging certificates. It comes as no surprise that the movie has already begun to fuel restlessness and discontentment among several people.
Release Date: 25th January.
Batla House
Another real-life tale, the film explores the Batla House encounter case that took place in September 2008 and had resulted in the killing of suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists. Encounter specialist and Delhi cop Mohan Chand Sharma too was killed during the incident. Incidentally, the shootout had taken place a week after Delhi serial blasts in which over 30 people were killed. The John Abraham-starrer narrates these incidents with director Nikhil Advani getting into the zone once again after his best work D-Day.

Thackeray – 25th January
Teaser of the film was unveiled a year ago and had made quite an impression. Now that the biopic of the late political leader Balasaheb Thackeray is set for release. One can already foresee a volatile dramatic affair in the offering. Yet again, direct names are being taken in this Abhijit Panse-directed film which is not afraid of being brutally honest. Moreover, the promo indicates that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is coming up with the performance of a lifetime in this film. This film, therefore, promises to bring on a lot of entertainment amidst controversy.

Rocketry – The Nambi Effect
Madhavan is co-directing Rocketry – The Nambi Effect with Ananth Mahadevan and the teaser has already made a good impact. Dealing with the real-life tale of scientist and aerospace engineer S Nambi Narayanan, this biopic promises a high decibel drama. The film chronicles the journey of Nambi who was falsely charged with espionage.
Release date: To Be Announced
Adding to these, a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is announced with Vivek Oberoi playing Mr. Modi. Also, there is URI telling the story of the brave-filled Surgical Strike.
With great movies come a lot of controversies, and there’s no saying where these movies might be headed. We can, however, look forward to a great year for Cinema lovers.
