South India is blessed with natural beauty, stretches of green foliage, sea coasts, beaches, and variety of flora and fauna. But more often these places are so crowded that you cannot enjoy your holiday properly or have those special private moments.
Here is a checklist of 12 less crowded places in South India that have not been explored much and hence retain their pristine beauty:
Gandikota
It is a small village located on the river Pennar bank in the district of Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. Famous as the Grand Canyon of the country, Gandikota offers you adventure and great trekking experience through the canyon ultimately leading to the riverbed.
2. Araku Valley
The place is famous for coffee plantations. It offers the first organic coffee brand grown by the tribals in the Araku Valley since 2007. This hill station located in Vishakapatnam district is surrounded by mountains like Sunkarimetta, Raktakonda, Galikonda, and Chitamogondi.
3. Belum Caves
These second largest caves in India and also the longest caves on Indian plains have long passages, fresh water galleries, spacious chambers, and siphons. Made from the black milestone, the Belum Caves have a constant underground water supply that keeps on forming caves with the deepest being 150 feet. It is located in Kolimigundla of Andhra Pradesh.
4. Skandagiri Caves
Located just 70 km from Bangalore, the mountain fortress of Skandgiri also called Kalavara Durga is a gorgeous place for a weekend trip. It offers breathtaking views overlooking Muddennahalli and Nandi Hills.
5. Athirappilly Falls
The 80 ft high waterfall in the Chalakudy Taluk of Thrissur district, Kerala is quite a hotspot. Also popularly called the Niagra Falls of India, Athirappilly Falls attracts tourists with its greenery, delightful sights, and daily jungle safari trips.
6. Maravanthe Beach
It is one of the most unexplored and less-crowded places in South India. People who love to spend some time in tranquility come in search of Maravanthe beach located on the drive from Mangalore towards, Goa, Karwar or Mumbai.
7. Vattakanal
Also called “Little Israel,” Vattakanal on the eastern coast of the Western Ghat offers a perfect blending of Israeli and Indian culture. A large number of Israeli people visit the place every year. And, you will find many Israeli households in this area.
8. Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu
Locals call this place by various names including Lost Land and Ghost Town. Dhanushkodi has an unorthodox charm and is one of the smallest land borders in the world and lies between Sri Lanka and India.
9. Kudle Beach, Gokarna
One of the lesser known beaches, foreign tourists prefer Kudle beach as it is clean, incredibly beautiful, calm and completely secluded. It is one of the five beaches in Gokarna. The other four beaches include Om, Paradise, Half Moon, and the Gokarna beach.
10. Halebidu
The regal capital of the Hoysala empire in the 12th century, the old city of Halebidu attracts tourists for its beautiful Kedareswara temples and architecture. Now proposed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city earlier was called Dorasamudra. It got its present name after Malik Kafur ransacked the city twice.
11. Hogenakkal Falls
The breathtaking fall on Kaveri river in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu is famous for a hide boat rides and medicinal baths. The Hogenakkal Falls serves freshly fried fish at the shore after the boat ride.
12. Ponmudi Hills
The hill station also called the Golden Hill is to the north-east of Trivandrum at a height of 3600 ft. With its thick tropical forest cover from the top of the hill to the foot, Ponmudi Hills also attracts tourists for its absolutely splendid attractions in the vicinity. These include Koyikkal Palace, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Kallar and an ancient palace from the 15th century.
