Dalai Lama’s escape to India

To start with, the political relationship between the People’s Republic of China and the Dalai Lama is fraught with controversy. There had been a great deal of violence and bloodshed. The history between them is really the history of China and Tibet. China hates the Dalai Lama and the first reason is due to the 1959 Tibet rebellion when the Dalai Lama escaped to India. Somehow it was considered a big insult to China which was completely isolated from the rest of the world on the Tibet issue (both US and USSR supported Tibet autonomy) after that, Dalai Lama has grown to be a respected leader in the world and has partly undermined China’s complete absorption of Tibet.
