1st of November, which is when Karnataka was formed, is how we remember Kannada Rajyotsava. This is more than just a day off from schools, colleges, and work. Kannada Rajyotsava is a day we must set aside from our busy, scheduled and routinely lives. It is important to remember who we are and appreciate our culture and our roots. It is a day we must set aside to celebrate the rich, varied culture and the heritage which gives us all a sense of belonging. Kannada Rajyotsava is a day we must take to know and appreciate our home.
We all have some idea about the celebrations for this festive occasion in our country, but did you know that Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated with the same enthusiasm in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Singapore and in many other countries across the globe? Our language, Kannada, recognized and appreciated at the popular literary festivals and international book fairs all around the world. It is with equal respect and reverence that Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated in other parts of the world.
It is a well-known fact that many students from Karnataka go abroad for pursuing their academic goals. In addition to this, a large number of Kannadigas, officially recognized as nonresident Kannadigas, are working all around the globe. Here are some of the countries where Kannada Rajyotsava is largely celebrated.
United Kingdom
Kannadigaru UK was formed in 2004, by the Kannadiga families in the United Kingdom where they could get to know one another. They are now a large cultural organization which not only helps artists in Karnataka showcase themselves overseas, but also conducts charity events in collaboration with other cultural bodies having Indian Roots. They have been organizing the Kannada Rajyotsava for the past 13 years and this year, they shall do the same at Gracepoint, Islington, in London. You can read more about the event here.
United States
The United States has always been the first choice for an Indian after their motherland, be it for academics or for their work. There are numerous associations such as AKKA where you can meet fellow Indians. This has often resulted in the vibrant celebration of festivals. Kannada Rajyotsava has always been a major Indian festival thanks to the significant number of Indians in the United States.
Kuwait
Kuwait Kannada Koota organizes the Kannada Rajyotsava in Kuwait. Founded in 1984, This organization is aimed at the promotion and preservation of the Kannada culture. They also organize events and social gatherings in order to promote the art, music, and culture of Karnataka. Therefore, the people of Karnataka in Kuwait feel united even though they are far away from home.
Hong Kong
The Kannada Sangha Hong Kong aspires to spread the heritage and culture of Karnataka in and around Hong Kong. In doing so, Kannadigas at Hong Kong feel connected to their roots, and to their culture. Kannada Rajyotsava is organized in Hong Kong while keeping the same ideology in mind.
Germany
The Rhein-Main Kannada Sangha is a cultural body in Germany. It allows the Kannadigas in Germany to interact and unite while celebrating their culture and heritage. They also provide a platform for artists from Karnataka, along with a platform for the preservation and propagation of Kannada.
