Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently revealed that during her early career, a Bollywood director wanted to see her underwear while filming a scene.
Overcoming Challenges in Bollywood
Priyanka Chopra is a well-known actress in both Bollywood and Hollywood. She has carved out a niche for herself on the global stage after overcoming a number of challenges in her early career. Recently, the actor recalled a derogatory remark made about her by a Bollywood film director on the set of a film in which she played an undercover agent.
Priyanka recently told The Zoe Report that she worked on a Bollywood film in 2002-2003 where she was supposed to seduce a male character. “I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing (at a time). I wanted to layer up. The filmmaker was like, ‘No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise, why is anybody coming to watch this movie?’” Priyanka narrated.
However, Priyanka said that the filmmaker didn’t say this to her, but to her stylist, and she overheard him. His remark led the actor to believe that her work was unimportant. She continued, “It was such a dehumanizing moment. It was a feeling of, I’m nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important.”
Father’s request
Priyanka eventually left the film because she “didn’t want to see his face ever again.” In addition, at her father’s request, she paid the film’s production team whatever money was spent on her.
Priyanka also explained why she did not call out the director. She said, “I was so scared. I was new in the entertainment business and girls are always told that ‘you don’t want to get a reputation of being hard to work with.’ So I worked within the system.” After feeling ‘cornered’ of Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra moved to the West.
Priyanka is currently starring in The Russo Brothers’ Citadel. The show revolves around two elite global spy agency Citadel agents, Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka). Her most recent film was James C. Strouse’s Love Again, in which she co-starred with Sam Heughan. She will now be seen in Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa alongside Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. The actor also works on Heads of State with John Cena and Idris Elba.
