Gehraiyaan released on 11 Feb, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video. The film more than mixed reviews has primarily got bad reviews. Some people have even gone to call it unrelatable and tough to watch. While the performance of Deepika has been praised, the film in general and its plot has been criticized badly by the audience. Here are 5 possible reasons this has happened.

Relatability factor

A lot of people have spoken about how the story was a directly unrelatable phenomenon. People have gone on to say that this does not happen in the Indian cities or suburbs and hence the audience could not relate to it.

The ‘Indian’ factor

People have also gone on to say that an Indian connection was missing in the film. The characters, the stories and the plot seemed very foreign to the audience. Some have also said that this was against the Indian culture and was not anywhere close to the roots of it.

Soft Porn too much?

While some say ‘Sex Sells’, for the film, the funda did not work. The film finely showcases intimacy scenes but people have said it was overdone and failed to impress the audience in the right spirit. People have also said that it was unwanted.

No message

Other than intimacy and skin show, the audience saw no message in the film. Guess it was more to do with the fact that it was open ended plot and gave the audience the leeway to decide?

Talent wasted

The actors like Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi though stood out actors like Naseeruddin Shah and even Dhairya Karwa were not used to the optimal level. Deepika was definitely appreciated.

Trolls made fun of the film, the film even joined the #boycottbollywood club as well! But we surely cannot deny that the film showcased aspects like mental health, childhood trauma and infeidlity in a very fine manner.
