In a fantastic discovery by geologists, they found 3,350 tonnes of goldmine all over Uttar Pradesh which is 5 times the gold reserve India has as a whole.
Two decades of searching by the Geological Survey of India and UP Directorate of Geology and Mining has finally gotten them two goldmines having around 2250 tonne gold ore in the Naxalite affected Sonbhadra district. The current Indian gold reserve is of a total 626 tonnes. This stands as a great discovery which could be very beneficial for the State of UP and India.
KK Rai, Mining Officer told news agency ANI, “The government is thinking of putting these deposits on lease for mining, for which a survey is being done. Gold deposits have been found at two places — Sonpahadi and Hardi field. GSI estimated gold deposits of 2,700 tonnes in Sonpahadi, while 650 tonnes in Hardi field”.
But it is not just gold that the officials are keen on. They are also exploring the possibility of rare minerals like uranium in Bundelkhand and Vindhyan regions of UP which are said to be rich in gold, diamond, platinum, phosphate, China clay, quartz and many more.
The exploration of the vast goldmines and other minerals will give a big boost to the state’s economy and revenue. Apart from providing both skilled and unskilled jobs, this will also lead to the much-needed development of the backward regions of these two districts of UP.
